Az Heydari Mission For Charity

It was a clear, blue sky morning at the circuit when Az Heydari reached the Sepang International Circuit on December 3. Dressed in a t-shirt and a pair of trackpants, the young doctor from Kent, UK was all set to run around the circuit’s track in her pursuit to raise money for charity.

As fan of MotoGP and a health-care provider, she decided to combine her passions for a good cause, and conceived the idea of running in each and every circuit where the MotoGP was held this year to collect funds for the Riders for Health organisation.

The Riders for Health organisation is a non-profit organisation which aims to provide reliable and safe transportation for health workers in Africa, where the shortage of transportation is a matter of life and death for millions of Africans.

Many Africans have died or are dying from easily-preventable diseases because the lack of transportation prevents health workers from reaching those who live in the remote rural areas. By ensuring that health workers have access to vehicles that never break down, Riders for Health is making sure millions of people across Africa receive regular, reliable health care, often for the first time in their lives.

Back in April, she put herself through the grueling Paris Marathon with her singular purpose being to raise money to help those without regular access to healthcare. Heydari participated in that event for the MotoGP-related Riders for Health organization and raised not only money for them, but awareness as well.

She began her solo run at the Sepang International Circuit’s track at 8am and finished her run within 40 minutes.

On her blog, she wrote:

“Hi everyone, you beautiful people out there that lift me when I m down.  I just got back from the Sepang International circuit.

The track is about 3.4 miles and I did it in about 40 minutes, it’s a beautiful track with views of distant mountains, palm trees, and the buildings are themselves rather elegant. The weather was very humid, and hot, so it was a little shaky at the end. But fluid soon sorted that out.

Huge thanks to Arvin for organising everything, everyone was very kind, and they gave me a lift back to the hotel!”

To give you an idea of just how much this will help, Riders for Health estimates that the money Heydari has already amassed is enough to equip three provincial workshops in Zimbabwe with decent tools. They can use that equipment to keep both two and four-wheeled vehicles running and delivering health care to those who need it most but live very far away from the nearest clinics. This is her ideal – this is her goal. Bringing health to everyone is what Heydari is running for…

The Sepang International Circuit team would like to wish Az Heydari the very best of luck in her noble pursuit and hopes that she would be able to reach her goal of collecting £15,000 for the charity!
