The trophies were unveiled today in a grand function at One Utama, in Petaling Jaya where SIC is hosting it's final roadshow campaign which will be held till Mar 29 (Sunday).
This year, Tumasek Pewter has been commissioned to design the trophies which will be presented to the respective winners on race day.
"Unlike the past 10 years, this year onwards it will be a new F1 in all aspects," said SIC CEO Razlan Razali.
"From car designs to race rules the world will be expecting new winners be it the driver or the team."
"SIC wants to celebrate this change which is expected to promote overtaking thus bringing more excitement to race fans by awarding a brand new trophy for the champions," said Razlan.
The trophies are costumed made and crafted out from pewter and has a mirror finish except for the circular base which is made of solid wood with High Gloss Black Finish (Piano Finish) to offer subtle contrast to the pewter mirror finish.
Additionally, the 3D figurine of the circuit is finished in a combination of mirror and fine textured stain and buff pewter to offer depth and contrast to the design.
There will be four units of customised F1 Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix 2009 trophies provided come race day.
They are the Driver Winner's Trophy to the 1st Placed Driver, the Constructor Winner's Trophy to the Winning Constructor, the 2nd Placed Driver's Trophy and the 3rd Placed Driver's Trophy.
Also present to unveil the trophy was Tumasek Pewter General Manager David Tan and Senior Marketing Manager Samantha Chan.
In the competitive world of sports today, the Formula F1 Grand Prix Motor Racing is one sport that has special pride of place in the hearts of Malaysians. In fact, the Malaysian F1 Grand Prix at the Sepang International Motor Racing Circuit has established itself as a regular fixture on the worldwide F1 calendar, thanks to the outstanding circuit design among other things and the full support of this prestigious annual event from the Government and people of Malaysia.
The circuit's unique design features include:
Not surprisingly, these features mentioned have become an icon recognized the world over. Thus, in our effort to conceptualize a trophy that is synonymous with the Malaysian F1, we at Tumasek Pewter have incorporated the characteristics onto the F1 Trophy. The end result is a trophy of modern simplicity yet elegant, with the unique features of Malaysian identity seamlessly crafted around it.
The design is inspired by the hibiscus shaped canopy. The body of the trophy is shaped like a hibiscus in full bloom, opening out as if ready to receive the sunshine which we receive in abundance in Malaysia. The design of the trophy is synonymous with our generous Malaysia hospitality, i.e. it is open and ready to receive the world and its recognition for its achievement in the F1 arena. Sitting in the heart of this hibiscus in full bloom, is the 3D figurine of the circuit, which is the pulse of F1 race. Support is critical in any achievements and in this trophy, the beautiful hibiscus shape is held up by 11 abstract flag pillars representing the 11 years of F1 achievements in Malaysia since the 1st F1 race in 17th October 1999.
And of course, equally as important is the foundation, which in this case is a solid circular base representing balance, well roundedness and fairness from all sides. This impressive trophy has a mirror finish for a glorious reflection of success. The overall essence is one of elegance and splendour.
