11 May 2010, BY Sepang International Circuits

SEPANG, May 8, 2010: Drag battle top racer Ahmad Firdaus Azman from N1 Racing Team emerged as the Class C champion in the second round of the Drag Battle, clocking at 12.266 seconds in his Honda Civic last Saturday.

The seasoned racer faced tough competition from other drivers competing in the Class C category such as Nurfaizun Nasri, who came in second at 12.616 followed by Mohd Hanafi Ismail who clocked in at 12.698 at the Sepang International Circuit.

“Naturally, I am very happy with my win, but I have to admit that it was a very tough fight. I think that I was very lucky tonight,” said Ahmad Firdaus.

“My mechanic and I have prepared ourselves for this race, with brand new engine with new components and incorporating the latest technology to produce a strong and fast machine. I’m quite satisfied as everything went rather well tonight,” he said.

Last year, Ahmad Firdaus emerged as the overall champion in the Class A category, and had also won second place in the Class C category.

“I decided not to compete in the Class A category this year because my car was not ready to compete,” he said.

Meanwhile, Singaporean Tan Chun Lin, who competed in his EVO 9 emerged as the victor in the Class A category.

However, many felt that that the competition in the Class A category was incomplete due to the absence of Lai Wee Sing from the R-Engineering racing team, who was the champion for the category three-years running.

The Sepang International Circuit’s Drag Battle’s third round will be held on July 24, and judging from the first and second round, the upcoming races promises to be exciting, and definitely  not to be missed by fans of the motorsport!
