While public transportation is the most recommended, racing fans driving to Sepang Circuit for the 2010 Formula 1 PETRONAS Malaysian Grand Prix race this Sunday should head straight to the KLIA Long Term Parking Facility at the airport complex if they do not have the appropriate parking stickers.
Traffic flow for Friday and Saturday would be as per normal though traffic police would on site to ensure smooth flow around the circuit and towards LCCT. A total of 550 police personnel including 250 Traffic Police would be supporting SIC for the event.
“The best option for those who don’t have parking stickers for the event is to take public transportation – the ERL, the KTM commuter and their supporting bus services. But, knowing the Malaysian public, they just love to drive … which is still fine with us.
“We are working closely with the Traffic Police to ensure a smooth traffic flow management for the event. Just follow the appropriate signages for your parking areas. For those without parking stickers, just drive straight to KLIA Long Term Parking, which is located near the KLIA Communication Tower, to park your cars,” says Razlan Razali, who is SIC Chief Executive Officer.
“My other advice will be for fans to come in early. Similarly, for those having flights from LCCT and KLIA that day … Be early or better still, be very early,” he said, adding that SIC had line-up plenty of off track activities to keep the spectators entertained before the race at 4pm.
Razlan, who is the Event Director for the 2010 Formula 1 PETRONAS Malaysian Grand Prix, said that shuttle services would be available at the KLIA Long Term Parking facility to ferry fans to the circuit and back after the race.
In managing traffic for the weekend, Traffic Police will be setting up five filtration points to identify traffic going to SIC and LCCT, which will be directed into Jalan Pekeliling. Others without the required stickers would be directed to the KLIA Long Term Parking.
From 7am to 4pm, cars leading to LCCT would be required to follow a special stretch of contra flow, which starts from the junction to the KLIA Airport Limo complex before entering back into the normal flow at Bukit Tinjau Traffic Light at SIC.
The contra-flow movement would be reversed from 4pm to accommodate the surge of traffic going out of the circuit after the race.
The five filtration points set up by the Traffic Police are at the Turn-off leading to the circuit after the KLIA Toll, the KLIA Mosque Roundabout; the road junction entering the KLIA Airport Limo complex, the traffic light at Bandar Enstek entrance and at the SIC entrance to the Paddock Area.
Targeting more than 100,000 spectators for the race, SIC is anticipating no less than 20,0o0 vehicles coming to the circuit on Sunday, which would also fitness a post-race Malaysian GP Concert featuring world class artists in Wyclef Jean and Fatboy Slim.
